Jan is an art historian, licensed guide and founder of We Guide Vienna. He and his photographer and sister, Maria, create unique and immersive tour experiences in Vienna and Austria.
We Guide Vienna specializes in history, culture, art, architecture, music, and gastronomy tours, and serves you the best stories through great storytelling, humour and comprehensive knowledge.
What makes Jan’s stories of Vienna so intriguing to listen to is that they reflect a vast knowledge of topics mixed with his witty and charming personality, making the stories easy to follow and fun to learn. It can only be explained by his unique journey.
Jan is born in 1988 in Oslo, Norway, and has roots in Norway, Poland and France. He speaks 6 languages and has accumulated information and stories since 2009, first through academic studies in Art History at the University of Oslo, and then from his 6 years working as a travelling storyteller across all of Europe and North America.
Since 2017, Jan is based in Vienna where he has found his calling.
He explains: ” I came to Vienna for the big history and art, but I stayed for the quality of life.”
The journey Jan is on presents him with a more complete perspective on history, cultures and peoples. This unique ability to empathise and connect with his international guests, together with his honest and natural ability to be a friendly and passionate host, makes Jan’s experiences truly special and memorable.
Maria is a professional photographer, social media manager, and Jan’s little sister. Maria is a traveler at heart and was educated in photography at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. As her ambitions in New York became limited due to the pandemic, she decided to join Jan in Vienna and practice her trade here. As soon as she arrived she fell in love with the city’s atmosphere and it rich culture.
She is currently doing photo workshops and tours, as well as establishing her own photo studio in Vienna based on her concept of a modern boudoir.
When Maria is not instructing or taking photos, she enjoys soaking in the sun on the Danube island, bouldering, networking and cooking delicious food.
